IForex Market Trading Signals and News – 10 June 2015

INTERNATIONAL CURRENCY BUZZ :

  • Forex – Dollar index edges higher but gains seen limited.
  • Forex – Sterling remains lower after U.K. trade data.
  • Forex – Euro erases early gains, Greece in focus

GBP/USD
GBP/USD was at 1.5291, little changed from around 1.5293 ahead of the report. The pound remained lower against the dollar on Tuesday after data showed that the U.K. trade deficit fell to the lowest in more than a year in April, indicating that it may create less of a drag on growth in the current quarter. The Office for National Statistics said the trade deficit narrowed to £1.2 billion in April, the lowest since March 2014 from an upwardly revised £3.1 billion the previous month. The goods trade deficit narrowed to £8.5 billion from £10.7 billion, also the lowest since March last year. The U.K.’s trade deficit trimmed 0.9% off overall economic growth in the first quarter, and the economy expanded just 0.3%.

EUR/USD
EUR/USD was last at 1.1272, off session highs of 1.1344 and down from 1.1290 late Monday. The pair ended that session up 1.71%. The euro erased early gains against the dollar on Tuesday as uncertainty over deadlocked Greek debt negotiations continued to cloud the outlook for the single currency. Athens submitted new proposals for economic reforms to the European Commission on Tuesday, fuelling hopes for a breakthrough that could unlock new funding before the country runs out of money. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said the two sides could reach a deal if Greece’s creditors dropped demands to cut pensions and other proposals which would push Greece deeper into recession.

GBP/USD
GBP/USD hit 1.5313 during European morning trade, the session low; the pair subsequently consolidated at 1.5327, shedding 0.24%. The pound slipped lower against the U.S. dollar on Friday, as sentiment on the greenback was mostly supported ahead of the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report due later in the day. Cable was likely to find support at 1.5177, the low of June 2 and resistance at 1.5441, Thursday’s high. Investors were eyeing data on U.S. nonfarm payrolls due later in the day for further indications on the strength of the job market.
